Your Messes are Waiting for You
3 Steps to Conquering Your Messes Now
A few years ago, I was in Florida for a Rich Dad event and I saw Raymond Aaron, another great Canadian success coach, deliver his presentation. He had one phrase in particular that has always stuck with me and I want to share it with you:
"Every mess is a lock on the door
between you and your dreams."
– Raymond Aaron
Wow! I just hate that, don't you? I mean, it's a powerful quote but I hate that it's just so darned… true. I've noticed time and time again that when I clean up a mess, any mess, the area of my life where I'm working toward a goal just takes off.
Messes are burdens, they are chains that we lug around with us all day, every day. And until we get them cleaned up, we're stuck with them. Now, they could be physical messes, or emotional, relational, mental, or spiritual, but a mess is a mess and it needs to be dealt with.
Today I'm going to give you 3 steps to get going on dealing with your messes so you can have the life you want.
Step 1: Get clear on your messes.
Make a list.
Yup. I love lists. And I love them because they work. If they didn't work, I wouldn't love them.
So get it down on paper. Every single mess you can think of. Every area of your life where there is an icky feeling – like a cobweb that has attached itself to you. Every mess you have is sucking a bit of your life force so get it out and get it down.
See how many pages you can fill! This isn't about guilt and shame so don't approach it from those emotions.
This is about getting fed up with not having control, taking that control back, and giving a big ol' middle finger to all the messes that have been sucking you dry.
This is about putting your stake in the ground and declaring that you are ready to create a life that you love.
So write them ALL down. And be honest – you don't have to show your list to anyone.
My lists used to be 8-10 pages long. Talk about juggling a lot of energetic balls!
Once you have them all down, you're ready for the next step.
Step 2: Decide that you ARE going to tackle at least one of these messes.
The first sneaky thing that messes do to us is bog us down in overwhelm.
They make us feel like there is nothing we can do about them.
They steal our hope and our drive.
Well! I'm here to tell you that it's a big, fat lie.
There is always something you can do about it! Always!
So DECIDE that you are going to deal with this mess once and for all. And then make a plan to get started on dealing with it. Avoid the mistake of thinking you need to know every step of the clean-up! That's another big, fat lie and you can leave it behind.
Come up with the first few steps, or even just the first step. Trust that it will get you moving and moving in the right direction.
That leads to our 3rd step!
Step 3: Take Action Now!
I know that there are so many things you want to accomplish and I want you to succeed. But you have to want it too.
You have to want it so bad that you are willing to do what you don't want to do.
You have to want it so bad that you are willing to give your kids some responsibility for their own lives. And your spouse too. And your vampire friends.
And you have to be willing to set boundaries around your own time, money, and energy. You have to be willing to say 'No!' to what isn't right for you.
Are you willing to do what it takes? Are you really?
Right now, what is the first mess you're going to eliminate?
Is it your health, your relationship with your spouse, your business, or something really hard, like being kind to yourself and practicing radical self-care?
Stop everything (even reading this, I'll still be here when you get back!) and go do something toward that mess-elimination right now. Anything. No matter how small.
Send an email. Send a text to your sweetie telling them how much you love them and how you're going to kiss them all over or make them their favourite meal. Make a call to a potential client. Make yourself a cup of delicious tea and put on your favourite music and chill for 10 minutes while you simply focus on your breathing.
Do something tangible. Something that the Universe can grab on to and help you to succeed with.
When you've finished it send me an email. Let me celebrate with you.
. . .
Did you do it? Something? Anything? Yes, I mean you. Did YOU do something?
Do you have a big goal? Do you know what you want to create? Are you clear? If you're not, that can be a problem – and a big mess! – all on it's own and it's certainly one we can help you with. That's why I created the Laws of Success Weekend.
But what if you do have a goal but you didn't do anything?
If you won't t take a step toward your own success then something is amiss. What excuse popped up? Maybe your Rebel popped up and said, "She can't tell me what to do!!"
Whatever it was, you need to get clear on it and either resign yourself to not getting your goals, or decide to take action now to get moving.
Most likely, you've got some really deep programming running to keep you safe. Safety is good, but that programming is sabotaging your life. When will you stop it from being a problem?
Jim Rohn, one of my greatest mentors wanted to write a book on fitness and health. He always joked that somewhere toward the beginning he would challenge the reader to drop to the floor and do 10 pushups. And then ask them to give the book away if they hadn't taken the challenge.
Because what's the point in reading one more book on fitness if you aren't ready to do anything? Your time is better invested figuring out WHY you won't take action?
I hope you join me as we move ahead together.
And I wish you all the best if you aren't ready to take control of your life and change it toward the life of your dreams… yet.
If you are ready to make that change, and I fully acknowledge that it can be scary and a lot of hard work to do it, then let's connect and figure out how to make it happen. Check out the Laws of Success Weekend page for great deals on getting a system that will help you deal with your messes. And if you want to want to change but you're so overwhelmed that you don't know where to start, then apply for a Strategy Session and we'll work through it together.
Your life is too important to waste one more day headed down the wrong path. Our world is sacred and it would be my privilege to help you experience all that you can be.
