Choose to Embrace the Light
It's the day before Christmas and all through my house the creatures are wrapping presents, we've even recruited the mouse. 🙂
I've been reading all the Best Wishes notes from the people that I follow with tips to make it through the holidays and encouragement to plan for 2014. That's all good. But it isn't where my head is.
Yesterday I finished a 2-day Breakthrough with a new client and it reminded me again how powerful each one of us is. How each one of us creates our very own reality in which we live. We get to choose who we will be and what world we will live in.
Do we live in a hateful, hurtful, angry world where we are constantly in pain? Sadly, many of us choose this.
Or, do we live in a world of light, where we see constant example of love and compassion in action? Just as sadly, very few of us have the mental, emotional, and spiritual discipline to choose this reality.
In the Toronto-area, we have tens of thousands of people who are still without electricity from the winter ice that descended on us over the weekend. Luckily, we kept our power here in Newmarket, but I have friends who have gone dark while they struggle to stay warm and make Christmas happen for their families.
Even in such dire circumstances, some will choose to surrender to the dark while some will defiantly face the fear and choose to stay in the light.
My wish for you this Christmas is that you begin to choose love and light. But I read that and it feels so saccharine. So falsely sweet. There are already far too many 'gurus' out there telling us to dwell in the positive and choose light. It just isn't that easy when it seems that everybody is conspiring to piss you off and hurt you.
Here's my challenge for you over the next few weeks:
That's my wish and my challenge for you. If someone or something causes you pain – emotionally, spiritually, or physically – be real about it. Let them know. Say 'Ouch, that hurt.'
Stop trying to be perfect and tough. It isn't working. It's hurting you. And it's time for it to stop.
Now, let's be clear. I'm not encouraging you to be a Victim and a Martyr. Far from it.
I'm just asking you to keep it real. If something hurts, call it out.
Shine some light on it. Figure out why it hurts. Figure out where the wound is in you that allows the darkness in. Stop ignoring and repressing the pain. It doesn't work.
Shine some light on it. Realize that you are surrounded by imperfect humans, just as you yourself are imperfect. Even while you take responsibility for being a powerful creator.
Real compassion can only happen after we accept that we are soft and squishy imperfect humans who are doing the best we can…
And that everyone around us is doing the same.
From one squishy human to another, may you have a blessed, peaceful, light-filled, and joyful Christmas.
